KAZUKO

Mixed Media Artist

KAZUKO spent her early childhood in a traditional Japanese-style house with a tokonoma alcove. On the nageshi, a horizontal timber that connects the pillars of the house, hangs a calligraphy by her late grandfather, who also created the store name of a company with its main store in Yokohama. This is where she found the splendor of the world of handicrafts.
She loves making things that are unique in the world. In 2018, she thought, “Let’s follow my heart and try what I want to do!” In her life full of twists and turns, the calm sea and sky hold a special significance for her. KAZUKO was initially interested in sand art, which reminded her of the sea.
In 2019, she became fascinated and hooked by colorful alcohol ink art.
In her first solo exhibition in 2023, she presented mixed media art, created from a fusion of materials and experiences she accumulated so far.
For KAZUKO, it was a natural progression to fuse the materials of the Japanese spaces that had been commonplace in her childhood. The collaboration of art and hanging scrolls became a source of encouragement to her husband, who is battling illness.
Even on days when she spends most of her time looking down, there are still views that unexpectedly catch her eye. Tracing the warm, comfortable breezes in her memory, she thinks of her family in her heart, embraces the new winds, and lives in the present. This is her way of bridging the old and the new.
KAZUKO hopes you feel the calm and soul from the art created by her.
