We all need “space” in our hearts. This belief drives MIORI to dedicate herself to writing and embrace the art of Japanese calligraphy.

The pressure of the brush, the speed, the temperature, and the humidity—each stroke on the paper subtly alters the lines, creating a delicate contrast between them and the space. Sometimes delicate, sometimes strong, these lines form a dynamic, captivating world, as if they embody life itself.

For MIORI, calligraphy has always been a world of fascination. However, many see it merely as something to read. She yearned for a calligraphy that could be felt, not just read, which led her to bring in ink painting techniques with traditional calligraphy, creating a unique style.

Once, standing before a painting in tears, she felt a gap in her heart finally fill. That moment became the foundation of her philosophy today.

MIORI hopes that those who encounter her work will pause, if only for a moment, and embrace the “space” that is so easily forgotten in today’s chaotic world. She also hopes her art will help rekindle recognition of Japanese calligraphy, which even many Japanese people are drifting away from. With this vision, she continues to share her unique world with the world, today and beyond.

誰もが心に『余白』を必要とする。永島美織は書の中にそれを追求し、そして願う。 ⁡

筆圧、速度、温度、湿度。和紙の上で書くたびに繊細に変わる墨の線は、与えられた空間に余白を残すことで、時に儚く時に強く、まるで命を宿しているかのように変幻自在で魅力的な世界を作る。 ⁡

しかし、幼い頃から彼女を魅了した「世界＝書道」は、多くの人にとってはあくまで読む為のものだった。読むだけでなく、感じられる書を探求したい。その想いが、「書」に「墨絵」の技法を加えた作風を生んだ。 ⁡

かつて彼女は、一枚の絵の前で涙したことがある。その瞬間、彼女は未だかつて感じたことの無かった心の隙間が埋まる感覚を体験し、その感覚こそが彼女の抱く願いの原点となっている。 ⁡

行き交う誰かが、彼女の創り出す世界の前でふと足を止め、その余白の中で自分だけの時間を過ごすこと。そして、日本人ですら遠ざかっている、「書道」という日本文化が再認識されるきっかけを作ること。その願いを胸に、彼女だからこそ創り出せる世界観を、今日も世に送り出し続ける。
