KAORI Kojima

Kaori Kojima is a painter of space. She creates space by adding and subtracting paints, mainly gold and colors of sumi ink.
The “contour” for her represents the substance of the object it outlines and, at the same time, is connected to the spaces, lights, and invisible substances that lie before and after it.
Those spaces, beautiful and alive, are what Kaori Kojima expresses.
She feels them dwell in everything, and that everything is embraced by and receiving encouragement and love from them. She continues to create, seeking to express their aliveness.
She grew up enjoying her time in the art class, studied oil painting in high school, and Japanese style painting at university.
In 2008, she got a commission to produce a painting of a dragon for the Kagura stage, which grew her fascination for sumi ink. She has been using it in her work since then, charmed by the numerous colors it creates.
In addition to participating in group exhibitions several times a year, she keeps showing her work at solo exhibitions and international exhibitions organized by Japan, Korea, and China.

小島香は空間を描く画家である。墨の色や金などをメインに絵の具を足したり引いたりして空間を生み出してゆく。
“輪郭”は、そのものの実体を表すと同時にその奥行きや重さとつながり、前後の空間・光・見えていないものに繋がっている。
小島香が表そうとするのは、その美しい生きている空間である。
それをなぜ描くのかは、全てのものにそれが宿り、全てのものはそれに包まれ、全てのものがそこからエール・愛を受け取っていると感じるからである。
その美しさを、生きている空間として表したいと制作を続けている。
幼い頃子供絵画教室を楽しみ、高校では油彩を学び、大学では日本画を学んだ。
2008年に、神楽の舞台で使う龍の絵を依頼され、墨で描いたことがきっかけで、墨を使い始めた。墨の中にある数多の色に魅了されている。
年に数回展示に参加、また個展のほか、日本・韓国・中国の3カ国によって行われる国際展への出品も続けている。
