kayoko Matsumoto

Kayoko Matsumoto was born in the suburbs of Osaka where many ancient ruins remain near the old capital Nara.
Though she started her career in the commercial art,however,she found the system of commercialism brings never ending destruction of the environment.She was getting interested in the indigenous people’s way of life and their values,then she had the chance to visit and stay at reservations in North and South America many times over the years.After all those experiences,the indigenous way of seeing the world of course influenced her life and her artwork.
Her motifs are air,water,and light which are embracing all the living creatures on the Earth with great love and joy.From small object works to huge projects,using various kinds of materials such as beeswax,glass,cloth,oil,and water color,she is pursuing her expression of love to all lives on the Earth.

大阪府八尾市に生まれる。
キャリアのスタートは、雑貨や小物のデザイナー、イラストレーターであったが、やがて環境破壊を引き起こす消費社会のシステムに疑問を抱き、先住民族の暮らしや価値観に興味を抱き始める。そして、南北アメリカの先住民の土地を数年にわたり訪れ、滞在する機会を得る。これらの経験の後、先住民的な世界の捉え方、命に対する深い愛、自然に対する大いなる畏怖の念が、創作に大きな影響を与えた。
彼女の作品のモチーフは、大気や水や光である。それらは、愛と喜びと優しさで地球上の全ての生命を包んでいる。小さなオブジェから大作まで様々な素材(蜜蝋、ガラス、布、油彩、水彩)を使用し、それらを表現することを追求している。
